Everyone Should Read:
It’s not that you can’t trust, it may just be that you’ve been told not to. “Careful,” your mother warned you. “Be careful with your heart.” So you were. When a man came along, you kept up your guard and sometimes this was good. You were skeptical and so you filtered out the obviously bad ones, the ones who came with DANGER tattooed across their foreheads. You kept them out but you also kept out the ones who held your door open for you and who listened patiently as you told a childhood story on the phone. They walked away because who wants to spend ages trying to chip away at the layers you’ve built around yourself? And it’s not their fault, really, and you understand why they walk away which is why it’s shocking that occasionally, one of them will stay put. He’ll let you stomp in place and let you yell and get everything out of your system and he’ll wait. He will not only be okay with you eating junk food but eat it with you and later, he will rub your belly in bed because you’ve gotten too old to eat pizza at 3am. You will try to run and he will let you but he will be standing exactly where you left him when you went ahead and lost your mind, not because he has nowhere else to be or because he’s a pushover but because he understands that you are worth waiting for. And you are, not because he proved it to you, but because he gave you the time to realize it for yourself.
wow.
This made me smile.
That’s some damn fine writing
