Good for you Del! Fighting that good fight!
This week is the 1 year anniversary of my Movie Night short “Hooters Dude” law suit debacle.
Yup, Law suit debacle. (this week, a year ago in a nut shell)
Day 1: I remember waking up & getting an email from the director/producer of the movie Confessions of a Superhero… I thought it was the weirdest fucking thing, this dude wants me to take down my parody I made of his movie because it had direct dialogue from it. (email)
Ok, at first I was a little confused… this is a parody, that’s what parody’s do… they make references to the movie it’s parodying so people understand what’s going on.
After posting the email on tumblr, I was really happy to get a couple of responses from some pretty cool folks with good advice. (Justine Bateman, Molls, Spencer Strauss, and Aaron Moles)
Day 3: So, seeking lawyer advice my good friend Spencer decided to call up 103.1’s Barely Legal. They pretty much give free advice over the radio for people that have odd law questions. Well, guess who was listening? mmmhmmm. (email)
Day 4: I asked all of my friends to come over and help me make a “Don’t Parody” video just like the “Don’t Vote” video that was going on around that time. (video)
Day 5: I send him the video
Day 6: He sends me an email I never posted, but if you wanna see it let me know… but he writes:
it’s not a fight, dude. Im sure you have better things to do with your life. Parody away. So, I guess in the end I kind of won through the powers of blogging, video responses, and not backing down… the internet can be a strong tool.
Thanks to everyone who re-blogged, twittered, emailed, facebooked, and whatever else to help me out. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
